Refrain from hugs, handshakes this Eid: Aligarh Shahar Mufti Khalid Hameed.
Aligarh: In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Shahar mufti of Aligarh on Thursday appealed to his community members to refrain from hugs and handshakes on the occasion of Eid and offer prayers at home to prevent the spread of infection.
City cleric Khalid Hameed, said everyday fresh cases of coronavirus are being reported in Aligarh and three main areas of the city are still under containment zone. He said, "since the threat of the spread of the disease still prevails, all Muslims should celebrate the festival at home and not throng mosques to offer namaz. He also appealed that people should maintain social distancing norms and not shake hands or hug each other to exchange greetings".
He added that in the current scenario outings should also be avoided by youngsters even though relaxation have been announced in the fourth lockdown. "We have to protect ourself, our country and others too," he said, adding that instead of spending on celebration, help the needy, which will be an actual gift to God.
Aligarh district magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh said that all religious places are closed as per government order. "Our major areas are in containment zone, hence we appeal to the people to offer Friday and Eid prayers at home and don’t get out," he said, adding that he had directed officials to closely watch the movement of people during the festival.
SSP Muniraj G said that police force has already been deployed zone wise for strict surveillance ahead of Eid during lockdown. “We have already conducted a meeting with religious leaders regarding Eid prayers and asked them to spread awareness in their community," he said.
